Turtle Salon

In 2007 Michael H Shamberg came to organise one of his Turtle Salons at the Woburn Research Studios, Slade School of Fine Art in London. Since then I have been a part of the Turtle Salon network participating in numerous screenings and exhibitions. In 2014 I organised the screening 'Turtle Salon in the Forest', an outdoor screening in the Swedish county of Jämtland featuring the work of nearly 50 artists from the famous to the unknown. This screening was presented in 2015 as 'Turtle Salon in the Project Rooms' at Färgfabriken in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Characters & the Photographers

Five photographers, or artists working with photography, were invited to portray the characters I have used in my work. The agreement was such that the photographer controlled the setting and situation of the photographs and I would control the characters and their actions (the characters would behave true to their nature). The original idea of single portraits became series, juxtapositions of studio and landscape, interaction between characters, fictive space, and series of holiday snaps. Photographers: Guðmundur Ingólfsson (IS), Stine-Marie Nord Pettersen (NO), Alex Kent (UK), Bjørn Venø (NO) and Emma Wieslander (SE).

With Anita Wernström I also gave a lecture at Iceland Academy of the Arts and organised a workshop with a group of students.

Invited to participate in a seminar on market value at the Slade School of Fine Art we invented the two curator personas Julia Comodín and Annika von Silverhammar. The personas went on to curating an exhibition with the two characters Death and the Opera Singer at Lorem Ipsum Gallery in London. In Daniel Devlin's Purple Turtle they participated in a panel discussion with the artist renegade Hezog Dellafiore played by Maxine Peake. They interviewed Ragnar Kjartansson on the End in the Icelandic Pavilion during the 2009 Venice Biennale. They also curated an evening of performances, titled Comodín Silverhammar Curates, for the exhibition (made up and let down) as part of the SEQUENCES Arts Festival in Reykjavik, Iceland.
